Chain stores see ‘a whopper of a day’
U.S. retailers were upbeat about sales on Black Friday, as discounts helped pack stores nationwide for the opening of the traditional holiday shopping season.
“We think it’s going to be a whopper of a day,” said Toys “R” Us CEO Gerald Storch. By midday, that optimism had spread to the markets, helping push stock to their biggest gains of the past week.
